March
of Dimes' March for Babies ~ April 19, 2008
The
Central Carolina Jaycees are supporting Jaycee friend Kelly
Stone and her son Sam by participating in this year's
March
for Babies.
Premature
birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life-long
disabilities. Every year, the March of Dimes works to improve
the health of the more than half a million babies in the U.S.
who are born prematurely.
The
funds raised for the March for Babies support research that
save babies who -- like Sam -- are born prematurely. Click
here to learn more about Sam and how you can support our goal.
Voter Registration Drive ~
April 2 and 9, 2008
Since the original Get Out
And Vote campaign launched in 1923, the Jaycees have impacted
the nation through projects specifically directed at action
and involvement with local, state, and government agencies.
And our chapter is no exception.
We visited the Central
Carolina Community College main campus on April 2
and April 9 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm to register young people
for the May 6 primary election. We also registered new voters
on the Jonesboro campus on April 9 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.
Our
goal was to register as many young people to vote as we could.
We accomplished that goal by registering nearly 50 voters!
Folks
who want still want to register for the primaries,
can do one-stop early voting from April 17 until May
3 at the following sites:
- Lee
County Board of Elections, 255 S. Steele St, Sanford
- McSwain
Agricultural Center, 2420 Tramway Rd, Sanford
- Broadway
Council Chamber, 100 E. Lake Dr, Broadway
- Northwest
Pocket Fire Department, 60 Pickard Rd, Sanford
